RAIN this weekend did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of boys and girls from the Ely area taking part in their own Cub Scout adventure packed Centenary Camp, part of a nationwide series of events to celebrate 100 years of Scouting.

More than 200,000 Scouts across the UK slept under canvas at the same time, making a total of half a million nights away from home, the largest simultaneous camping activity ever undertaken by the Scout Association.

The Ely event, with Cub Scouts from Ely, Witchford, Haddenham, Littleport and Sutton, was held at Little Abington Campsite from Friday to Sunday, and saw more than 100 Cubs and their leaders attending the party of the century.

The youngsters, aged eight to 10, took part in a range of exciting activities, including an archaeological dig, climbing, backwoods' cooking, water blasting maze, first aid and assault course.

Scouts, Young Leaders and adult volunteers from Witchford and Ely were on hand to help.

Ely Centenary Cub Camp organiser Richard Westwood said: "We've been planning for our Centenary for a long time and it's great to see it finally coming together. One of the best things about being a Cub Scout is trying out lots of new activities with all of your friends
