The day that Princess Anne came to Denny Abbey

Trustees, staff and volunteers said they were delighted and honoured by her visit, which took place on April 16.

The Princess Royal was guided around the site by museum manager Ann Wise and chair of trustees Dr Jane Williamson MBE.

The tour started in the Abbey and moved on to Walnut Cottage where the Princess was fascinated by the kitchen and scullery.

After a quick peek in to the remains of the Nuns Refectory (14thC) she spent a while looking at the Wheelwright’s Workshop and chatted to Mr Jim Watts who donated the contents of the display to the museum in the 1990s.

HRH Princess Anne went on to meet the museum’s education volunteers in the village shop and finally went on to meet the museum’s volunteers, partners, trustees and supporters.

The princess said hello and shook hands with all the 100 people that were there.

The museum is open Tuesdays to Sundays (and Bank Holiday Mondays) between 11am and 5pm.
