An Ely preschool is calling for votes to bag them a share of a large cash fund by supermarket giants, Tesco.

Rainbow Preschool is bidding for the cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative, which is in collaboration with environmental charity, Groundwork.

The money would be used to put up a garden feature in their playground to provide shade and rain cover for the children improving their outdoor learning environment.

The initiative sees grants ranging from £1,000 to £4,000 – raised from carrier bag sales in stores – given to local community projects.

Three groups in every region have been shortlisted to receive the cash boost and shoppers are being invited to vote for who they think should bag the money.

A spokesman for Rainbow Preschool said: “Please help us raise as much money as we can to get our project up and running as soon as possible.

“This will allow the children to play and learn outside at all times of the year enhancing their outdoor experience.”

Voting is open in stores this November and December and customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop.

Rainbow Preschool is one of the groups on the shortlist alongside the Stained Glass Museum and Pregnancy Expectations Trauma Society (Petals).
