CAN I appeal to all readers to slow down while driving in and around Broad Street in Ely to protect the colony of Muscovy ducks (large black and white ducks) that live in this area of the town. These birds seem to waddle everywhere (instead of flying) and have very little road sense so they are very vulnerable to the traffic.

I have recently written to Cambridgeshire County Council asking for duck warning signs with a 'slow down' sign to be erected at both ends of Broad Street and I would urge all readers who share my views to do the same. They should write to the officer in charge: John Richards, East Highways Division, Cambridgeshire County Council, Stirling Way, Witchford, Ely, Cambs, CB6 3NR.

Finally, if any readers (including local wildlife groups) have any other ideas as to how we can protect these birds, perhaps they could share them via The Ely Standard.
