Pop-up exhibition showcases Anglo-Saxon cemetery finds - including a skeleton - from recent Ely excavation

Ely Museum held a pop-up exhibition with Oxford Archaeology on Saturday (June 9) showcasing finds from a recent excavation in the city.

Staff and volunteers at the museum said they “had a great day” when they welcomed members of the public through the doors to view the Anglo-Saxon discoveries.

A spokesman for Ely Museum said: “We had another excellent day at Ely Museum last Saturday when the archaeologists from Oxford Archaeology came along to share about all the amazing discoveries they made at the new North-West Ely development.”

The free event gave people the chance to meet archaeologists, see photographs and the view the objects found at the Ely development, including the discovery of the Anglo-Saxon cemetery.

A spokesman for Oxford Archaeology said: “We had a great day at Ely Museum on Saturday showcasing the finds from a recently excavated Anglo-Saxon cemetery in Ely in our pop-up exhibition.

“A special thank you to all of the volunteers involved - including the museum’s very own Anglo-Saxon warrior.”

Mike Rouse, Mayor of Ely, was amongst those who attended.
