A pop-up cafe run by students at Highfield School which comes to Ely Cathedral every fortnight is hoping to expand.

Laura Tatton, sixth form teaching assistant, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for the children to get some work related learning and Ely are very supportive of the school.

“I think it’s really important to get involved within the community.”

The community café opens at the cathedral centre every two weeks and the students sell drinks, homemade rainbow cookies and fruit/cheese scones.

The café, which runs fortnightly on Monday mornings from 10am till 11.30am, may become a social enterprise at The Maltings Cottage if Ely council accept the school’s business plan.

The next pop-up cafés open on June 6 and 20 from 10am till 11.30am.
