POLICE in Littleport have warned mini-motorbike riders their machines will be confiscated if they continue to break the law.

Officers have already confiscated a bike in the village after the rider was found to be committing a number of road offences.

Mini-motorbikes can be legally ridden on private land as long as the rider has the permission of the land owner. But police have the power to seize mini-motorbikes, or any other such vehicle, being used illegally or anti-socially.

The owner must pay a fine to have the vehicle returned. Officers are also able to seize any vehicle being driven on a public road where the driver does not have insurance or a licence.

Pc David Bishop said: "There are a number of individuals who are causing problems by driving their mini-motorbikes and off-road bikes around the town, on footpaths and roads and I would remind these people that their actions are illegal.

"Anti-social driving is not only disruptive, but also dangerous and we will not tolerate this behaviour.

"Police will carry out high-profile patrols in hot-spot areas in the village to target those involved.

"I would urge anyone who owns a mini-motorbike or is the parent of a child who owns one to think about the consequences before breaking the law."

INFO: Anyone with information about people driving mini-motorbikes illegally in Littleport, should contact police on 0845 456 4564 or Crimestoppers on 0800 55511.
