Police warning for homeowners in Little Downham following string of burglaries
PUBLISHED: 16:29 01 August 2012
RESIDENTS in Little Downham are being urged to be vigilant after four burglaries on Monday night (July 30).
Thieves stole valuables from homes in Walnut Tree Close and Rye Gardens, broke into an outbuilding and car in Cannon Street and also fled from another property after setting an alarm off.
Detectives are linking the burglaries and are urging people to be vigilant after it emerged the offenders gained access through unsecure doors, garages and windows.
Burglars took a laptop, iPhone, clothing and documents from a house in Walnut Tree Close and a silver cigarette box, iPad, laptop, cash and cigarettes from a property in Rye Gardens.
A number of model cars including 12 pewter miniature Jaguars were taken from an outbuilding in Cannon Street between 6.15pm on Monday and 7.15am the following day. A silver Volkswagen Golf was also searched by offenders during the night, but nothing was taken. An alarm was activated at another home at about 2.30am.
Detective Inspector Donna Wass said: “We are linking the burglaries and would urge anyone with information about the stolen items or who may be responsible to contact police.
“We have received great support from residents in Little Downham who have provided CCTV footage and other information which is helping us progress the investigation.
“It seems the burglars gained entry through unsecure windows and doors and I would remind people to ensure windows and doors are locked and secure when their property is empty or at night. It may be tempting to leave windows open during warm weather but it can be an invitation for a burglar to target your home.”
Anyone with any information about the burglaries should call DI Wass on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
