OFFICERS investigating pools of blood in a Cambridge street are trying to trace a man from the Ely area.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was treated for serious facial injuries by paramedics not far from Chesterton Hall Crescent on Tuesday evening (July 7) and, although unable to describe how he had sustained his injuries, did mention that he lived in the Ely area.

Detective Inspector Billy Bremner said: "This really is a mystery and something that we would like to get to the bottom of so we can be sure that no crime has been committed.

"The paramedic treated a man in his 60s not far from Chesterton Hall Crescent that night, who had lost a lot of blood following facial injuries.

"He was later discharged and we believe he may live in the Ely area, which is what he told hospital staff.

"I would like this man to call me. It may be that he was a victim of crime so we will be able to help him. Either way, we would like to know what happened.

"It is possible this man has lost a pair of reading glasses too as we found them near to the blood. If anyone thinks they know who this is, please contact me."

Detectives were first notified of blood on cars in the Chesterton Hall Crescent area on Wednesday morning (July 8).

Anyone with information is asked to contact DI Bremner at Parkside Police Station, on 0345 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
