Police officers attended Priest Lane in Willingham to recover a stolen motor vehicle which was found by a member of the public in a field on Monday.

The vehicle - a Red Ford Fiesta ST - had been parked up in the field hidden from view, and was already wearing stolen number plates.

A police spokesman said: “It would seem that the car had become bogged down and was then abandoned by the frustrated thieves.

“The car was originally stolen from Welyn Garden City in Hertfordshire two days ago.

“The owner has been notified of the discovery. It has now been removed from the field and will be subject to a forensic evaluation.

PC Steve Gilbey, who attended the incident, said: “The vehicle was too bogged down to get out of the field under it’s own power and we needed to get recovery in help extract it.

“We’re grateful to the member of the public who found the vehicle and reported it immediately.”
