A 28-year-old man has been questioned by police after a teenage girl reported being raped in a churchyard on Saturday.

The attack on the 16-year-old girl took place at 6am in the grounds of St George’s Church on Church Lane in Littleport.

The churchyard was closed to the public for much of Saturday while police forensic teams examined the scene and searched the area.

Officers arrested the man later on Saturday on suspicion of rape and he was bailed to appear at Parkside Police Station in Cambridge on December 13.
