THIS week the force will take part in a week long enforcement campaign to target those who speed on the county’s roads.

The initiative which begins today (Monday, April 18) is part of a European-wide campaign organised by TISPOL (Traffic Information System Police).

Roads Policing Inspector Chris Skepper, said: “Excessive and inappropriate speeding is one of the main contributions to avoidable collisions that result in death or serious injury.

“The purpose of this campaign is to promote safe driving by encouraging everyone to stick to the speed limits and thus reducing the number of casualties on the county’s roads.

“Those who break the speed limit or speed inappropriately when driving are not only risking their own lives but also the lives of others.”

Speeding is an emotive issue for many residents in Cambridgeshire and is one of the most common complaints during neighbourhood policing panel meetings.

Inspector Skepper added: “Speeding is an issue that concerns many residents in the county and one that we take extremely seriously.

“This campaign is part of ongoing work to make the roads of Cambridgeshire a safer place for everyone who uses them.”

Anyone caught speeding will be issued a FPN, resulting in a 60 fine and three points on their licence.
