POLICE officers, councillors and firefighters were among a host of organisations in Ely’s country park on Thursday as part of an evening of action.
The aim of the visit was to look at ways to ensure the country park and the Roswell Pit area remains a safe and pleasant place to visit.
The evening involved a tour of the area highlighting many of the recent innovations in the park and how plans to develop the area are taking place.
The tour also saw the newly installed fire proof litter bins and the impact of organised regular litter picks of the park by the community payback team.
Councillor Mike Rouse, country park champion at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “By working together we can ensure tackle the tiny minority whose mindless actions should not be allowed to ruin what is a lovely area of the city.”
Sue Loaker, Cambridgeshire Constabulary crime prevention officer, said: “This was a very worthwhile evening we had the opportunity to walk around the country park and speak to the public who use the park.
“One issue which was highlighted was the amount of litter in the park - despite adequate bins being provided. This is something we will be working with our partners to address.”
