The police helicopter was scrambled to help hunt for a man suspected of stealing diesel last night (Tuesday).

Police in Norfolk were alerted to an incident of theft from a property in Stowbridge, near Downham Market, at about 7.30pm and quickly located a suspect vehicle.

A pursuit took place and the suspect drove into Camel Road, in Littleport, before abandoning his car and making off on foot.

A search of the area was carried out by officers on the ground as well as with the help of the helicopter but the suspect escaped. Officers later seized the vehicle and an investigation to identify the man is now under way.
