POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a Littleport man suffered severe injuries following an assault in the village on Sunday.
The incident happened at around 1am in Crown Lane, close to the mini roundabout for Wisbech Road, when the 30-year-old man was hit from behind and assaulted, resulting in head injuries.
He was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital and has since been discharged.
DC Paul Atkinson, who is investigating, said: "This was an unprovoked attack and I would urge anyone with information about this assault to contact me.
"We know there were people in the area around the time of the incident and I would ask that they get in touch.
"Any information, no matter how small, could prove invaluable in determining who is responsible."
