The Interesting Hotels Group acquired the historic Grade II listed business in St Mary Street which adds to what bosses say is its collection of eclectic properties.

Interesting Hotels director, Ulrike Le Roux, said: “We are very excited to add the property to our group which has built its reputation on providing excellent accommodation and first class service in every hotel, together with offering high quality food.

“Ely is a very distinctive city and Poets House is a great addition to our collection of eclectic properties within the group.

“We are looking forward to welcoming our guests to Poets House.”

The group was formed in 2013. Other properties in the group include Sudbury House Hotel in Faringdon, Oxfordshire and The Swan at Hay.

Originally three Grade II listed properties, Poets House has been run as an hotel since 2013.

The building was once the home of a local author and boasts 21 bedrooms, a restaurant, bar and meeting rooms.

Poets House in Ely and Paddocks House at Six Mile Bottom were placed in administration in July 2015 and went up for sale in October last year.

At that time Collier International released details of both hotels – which had a combined turn over last year of £2.5million - and invited ‘substantial’ offers.

Poets House opened in 2013 and its turnover for the year ending in March 2015 was £1.45 million, says Collier. That compared to £1.22million in the previous year.
