Plans unveiled for new Witchford housing development

Cheshire-based developer Gladman has forged ahead with plans for almost 130 new homes in Witchford.
Following the approval of preliminary plans, Gladman has now submitted detailed drawings for 128 homes, located to the north of Field End, to East Cambridgeshire District Council.
The developer, which has also recently entered plans for 100 homes in Haddenham, says it plans to make the Witchford development sustainable while reducing energy consumption.
It has planned a network of green spaces and has also set aside space for play facilities. The development will include a mix of houses from two to five bedroom and will also have a range of affordable housing.
Gladman told the council: “The overall vision for the site is to create a distinctive and high quality sustainable development, which enhances the qualities and character of Witchford.
“Housing will be set within a robust green infrastructure, which will include existing mature trees and hedgerows. The scheme will provide a play area which will act as a community focus within the development.
“Rather than attempt to imitate existing built development, the design is informed and inspired by the character and detail found within the historic elements of Witchford, local villages and surrounding landscape.”
Together with its submission, Gladman also commissioned a 50-page sustainability report, which examined whether the development could be accommodated within the village without causing harm.
The report, carried out by consultants Rural Solutions, concluded: “Increasing the supply of housing should help to improve the current imbalance between demand and supply which has led to a worsening of housing affordability relative to income levels.”
A decision on the plans is expected within the next eight weeks. To view the plans, or to have a say, visit www.eastcambs.gov.uk
