McCarthy and Stone’s plans for new retirement apartments in Ely went on display for the first time on Thursday.

The developer held an exhibition at the Poets House Hotel, in St Mary’s Street, where detailed drawings of its plans for 55 apartments in Lisle Lane went on display.

The company hopes to build the new development on the site of G&J Peck – in which it has “acquired an interest”.

The developer says meetings about the plans have already been held with neighbours of the site and representatives from the Ely Society and Ely Perspective and it plans to

present the plans to the City of Ely Council in May.

The proposed facility will have “a high specification of communal facilities including a full-service restaurant, function room and residents’ lounge”.

The development is expected to create up to 17 full time jobs.

G&J Peck is relocating to alternative premises in East Cambridgeshire.

Darren Humphreys, regional managing director at McCarthy & Stone Midlands region, said: “We’ve already spent time meeting with local representatives and carefully researching the architecture and character of the local area but we need to ensure what we build is what our customers, as well as the local community, would like to see in Ely.

“We want to hear from the local community and our future home-owners before we submit a planning application and will be displaying our plans at the exhibition. Our project team will listen to feedback on what we’ve done so far and the comments we receive will help us tailor our proposals into something people will want to see, enjoy

and call home.”
