Plans to install 80 solar panels in a field at a Sutton cattery and kennels look set to get the go ahead from planners.

A report to East Cambs District Council’s planning committee recommends approval of the application from William Bridges of Amberlea Country Kennels and Cattery in Ely Road to site the panels in a field.

The application also seeks permission to use the agricultural field for a dog training and exercise area (which is already taking place), additional parking, a new access, and reed bed waste disposal.

The report by Rebecca Saunt, senior planning officer, explains the application needs to be determined by committee as the panels are not being located on a building and it is considered a large scale renewable energy development.

Witcham Parish Council has raised a number of concerns including the fact the new access will restrict flow of traffic, rather than slipping in on the slip road from the Sutton direction.

However, four neighbours, who have been notified, have made no response.

The report concludes: “The proposal will help support and grow an existing business. The proposal will further enhance the biodiversity of the site and will not create an adverse visual impact or have an adverse impact on residential amenity or highways.
