MRS J Kinnear welcomed 29 members to the meeting on March 8. Janice was pleased to introduce town crier for Ely Mrs Avril Hayter-Smith, who began a talk on her background and how she came to be a town crier. She told members how she enjoys the job, meeting with many other town criers at various competitions and functions. Members enjoyed looking through her scrapbook, or as she calls it, her brag-book and photographs. Mrs J Kinnear thanked her for a very interesting talk, and Mrs J Powley presented Avril with a small gift. Refreshments were served and there was also a raffle. Mrs J Kinnear organised a quiz. The next meeting is on Wednesday, April 12, when the speaker will be Dr Dorothy Frost talking about Tibet.
