PROTESTERS demonstrating at the Mereham new town inquiry handed over their petition on Friday.

Haddenham villager, Jane Howell, who has been at the hearing almost every day, and Louise Hill, 17, presented the petition to planning inspector, Richard Ogier, calling for the project to be rejected.

Campaigners, who were joined at the petition handover by Rachel Griffiths, 22 months (pictured), with her own special Mereham poster, have collected 7,846 signatures on paper and through the 10 Downing Street website.

The inquiry at Haddenham's Arkenstall Centre will reconvene on Monday, December 17 for several days. A final date in January is to be announced to hear closing submissions.
