SPEEDING pensioner Jean Sangster caused a road accident that wrote off three cars, when she crashed into the back of queuing traffic.

But sixty-one-year-old Sangster has no recollection of the incident that happened on the A10 roundabout that joins Downham Road on the outskirts of Ely, magistrates heard on Thursday.

"She intended to turn left, but cannot recall what happened as she moved towards the roundabout," said solicitor Michael Judkins.

Sangster, of Low Road, Queen Adelaide, had denied driving a Seat Toledo carelessly on September 12 last year, but was found guilty after the trial.

She had hit the back of a Ford Transit van, which was pushed into a Citroen Berlingo ahead of it, and that van then collided with a Suzuki in front of it.

Presiding magistrate Dr Christine Shaw told Sangster: "We consider this quite a serious case. Four vehicles were involved, three were written off, and you were injured.

"We find that you collided with a Ford Transit at speed, and find you were entirely responsible for the accident."

Sangster was fined £100, and eight points were endorsed on her driving licence. She was ordered to pay £450 costs and a £15 surcharge.
