A WILBURTON pensioner was attacked in her home and repeatedly stabbed in the neck and head.
Miraculously, Janet Smith, 64, was released from hospital and returned to her family just four days after Thursday evening's attack.
Police were called to her Berristead Close home a about 9pm after she raised the alarm.
Ms Smith had suffered neck and head injuries as well as cuts to her hands, and was taken to Cambridge's Addenbrooke's Hospital.
The attack comes just weeks after East Cambridgeshire Police held a five-week knife amnesty, and a report released yesterday (Wednesday) criticised the Government's strategy on tackling knife-related crime.
Statistics show knife use has increased nationwide over the past 12 months.
