The event was held at the club’s regular meeting hall, in Witchford, with 51 guests enjoying a meal served by caterers Margaret and John Toft.

Club president Bernard Arnold gave a speech, thanking all those who had helped give him a good year in office, and he also thanked his wife Ruth for hand-making the gift to all the ladies of a felt brooch.

A commemoration of Mrs Toft’s service of 38 years to Ely Rotary Club was rewarded by the presentation of a Paul Harris award, which is the highest award given by Rotary to people who have provided great service both within and outside the Rotary movement.

The main speech of the evening was made by Rev Christopher Bishop, from March Rotary Club, who spoke his time in ministry doing work as chaplain to Whitemoor prison.
