An Ely man who was diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer has decided to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.
Paul Cowley was just 34 when, during an investigation for an unrelated medical problem, in 2012, doctors discovered he had mesothelioma – an incurable cancer that arises from exposure to asbestos.
Paul, who has a three-year-old son Ethan, underwent major surgery to remove part of the tumour to allow chemotherapy to take place and he completed his treatment in April last year.
He said: “Since then I have been stable. At present I feel lucky as I have no symptoms - apart from fatigue - and I am able to enjoy life as best I can.
“Because of this I have decided that this year I would like to join in and grow a moustache for mesothelioma in March and raise much needed funds for Mesothelioma UK.
“A terminal diagnosis is life changing and organisations like Mesothelioma UK are much needed to provide help and guidance to people in my situation.”
Supported by his wife, Claire, Paul is hoping to raise more than £200 with his moustache.
