If you have a passion for fashion then enjoy a special show being held in Ely to raise funds for Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.

The show is being organised by Jean Lawrence to celebrate having had a hearing dog for 20 years.

She is being supported by Edinburgh Woollen Mill.

Jean first had Scampi and now has Dino helping her live an independent life.

The show is at St Mary’s Community Room, St Mary’s Church, Ely on Thursday April 7 at 2pm.

Tickets cost £5 which includes tea and coffee and cakes and an opportunity to meet some hearing dogs and new puppy recruits.

A Hearing Dogs for the Deaf spokesman said: “The charity trains dogs to alert deaf people to sounds they can’t hear - sounds we take for granted like the doorbell, alarm clock and even danger signals like the fire alarm.

“Hearing dogs bring independence, companionship and confidence and gives a deaf person the independence to go out without feeling alone or self-conscious.

“We’ve lost count of the number of recipients who have told us of fun activities they’re taking part in – just because their hearing dog was by their side.

“It’s literally transformed people’s lives. And that’s why we’re so passionate about what we do.

“Dogs are known for their loyalty and love – and we see these incredible traits in a hearing dog every day.”

The cost of each hearing dog throughout their lifetime is about £45,000.

The main breeds trained are labradors, cocker spaniels, poodles, golden retrievers and cross breeds like Cockapoos.

“They’ve all got unique traits that make them amazing hearing dogs. And they’re all really lovely to work with, too.”
