THE meeting on Friday, February 2 was opened by Vera Seal who introduced sub-officer Richard Powell and leading fireman Scott Fretwell from the Cambridge Fire and Rescue Services. Members were treated to a video presentation and short film about fire safety at home augmented by commentary from Richard Powell. The genial duo explained ways to ensure our homes are protected against fire and how to react correctly should a fire occur. Members who lacked fire alarms were encouraged to let the officers know so that free fire alarms could be installed by them. Sheila Knight thanked the fire officers on behalf of the members who generously donated £50 to the firefighters' benevolent funds. Vera Seal organised the raffle, refreshments were served by the ladies, and the meeting was brought to a close with the singing of the club hymn.
