Taking place on Palace Green, the Etheldreda Craft and Food Fair was a day for the whole family, with dozens of stalls featuring local foods, jewellery, plants and summer produce.

All of the funds raised go towards the Ely Cathedral Choir Tour Fund, with the majority of the money going towards their upcoming 2018 tour in Estonia.

Christina Leak, one of the organisers, said: “The event went really well. This year I went round the stalls during the day asking for comments.

“All of the comments were full of praise, saying how well the event was organised and what a delightful day it was, which is great.”

In keeping with the tradition, visitors had the opportunity to try their luck on the tombola and test their aim on the coconut shy.

As well as that, they could enjoy a Pimm’s and strawberries and cream on the lawns in front of the cathedral.

The fair was started in the early 1990s and named ‘The Etheldreda Fair’ by St Etheldreda, the founding abbess of the first abbey in Ely.

By the late 1990s the organisation of the fair was taken on by the boy chorister parents who broadened it to the full scale fair, on Palace Green, in front of Ely Cathedral.
