AN open garden event held in Littleport last week helped raised hundreds of pounds for Parkinson's UK Research.

The event was held at Hempfield House, in Barkhams Lane, and saw dozens of people milling around amid the flower beds of Pam and Brian Hayes, members of the Ely and District Support Group for Parkinson’s.

During the day the garden was opened to the public with light refreshments and a raffle with donations towards Parkinson’s UK Research.

About £300 was raised on the day and, with further donations still coming in , it is expected that the support group will be able to to send a cheque for £350 to Parkinson’s Research UK.

Earlier this year, Littleport Rotary Club donated £640 to the newly formed support group, to help with financing towards an annual programme of meetings, outings and purchases for equipment for its members.

Clive Webber, from the Rotary Club of Littleport, attended the open garden to officially hand over the donation, which was accepted by Mr Hayes, the group’s treasurer.

Anyone wishing to know more about the support group and Parkinson’s in general can contact either the Sue Vaughan-Williams on 08442 253614 or Rhonda Waters on 08442 253618.
