SUNDAY morning's service focused our thoughts on Jesus as our redeemer - through songs and readings, and in our prayers. Holy Communion drew those aspects together in a powerful acknowledgement of God's grace. The rest of the service was taken up with consideration of what we are setting out to do as a church, and how we might better attract people to the Christian message of hope. Lively and fruitful discussion may have raised more questions than it answered, but we sensed that we are embarking on a time of reassessment and strategising.

Sunday service: 10.30am, having looked this week at the call of God to the church, the pastor will speak on the call of God to the individual, looking at a number of ways on which we can expect God to speak to us, and what to do when we do not hear from Him. Crèche and Sunday School will be available. All are welcome.

On Friday, at 7.30pm and Saturday, from 10am until 3pm, Wayne Hilsden will be speaking at a seminar arranged by the Messianic (Christian) Educational Trust. The speaker, senior pastor of the King of Kings Community in Jerusalem, is in Ely as part of a UK tour. Under the title "Awakening the Church to God's heart for Israel" he will encourage his audiences to look with him at the thorny issue of where and how Israel is to fit into God's plans for this world. While no charge is made for the event, collections will be taken up to bless the speaker and cover expenses.

INFO: Further details are available from Pastor Patrick Brandon on Ely 01353 612 316.
