ON Good Friday, we joined Ely's other churches in the annual Good Friday Walk of Witness. Around 300 local Christians followed a rough wooden cross as it was carried through Ely, and it was the centrepiece in a short service on the Market Square.
Some of our people began their Easter morning celebrations by gathering at church for a joyful breakfast. Later our morning service was a resurrection celebration, which included many songs and prayers of thanks-giving and joy. The emphasis was very much on resurrection power.
The celebration of Holy Communion was also joyful and triumphant.
The pastor invited discussion during his address, asking us to recall childhood memories of Easter, and to share experiences of the resurrection power of Jesus in our lives, along with thoughts concerning our role as messengers of the hope His resurrection offers to those around us. There was a tremendous sense not only of rejoicing, but also of anticipation, as we considered our plans for evangelism in the near future. During this part of the service the junior Sunday School made a model of the hill of crucifixion and one of the empty tomb.
Sunday service: 10.30 a.m. The pastor will be teaching on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Crèche and Sunday School will be available. All are welcome.
