The West Norfolk branch of CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) has announced that The Old White Bell in Southery has been awarded the West Norfolk Branch Pub of the year.

Landlord, Peter Smith said: "Having only been in our pub for three and a half years, Nicola and myself were pleasantly surprised to be included in The Good Beer Guide for the last two years, but to hear that we have won this award from CAMRA was absolutely overwhelming."

Mr Smith added: "Nicola and myself would like to thank all the our many loyal regulars and those who drop in from time to time as they all help to create a friendly atmosphere in our little corner of the county."

The Old White Bell has struggled in the past and has at various times had to cease trading before Nicola and Peter took over. The pub is now run as an independent free house with an interesting range of guest beers.

Tim Spitzer, Chairman of West Norfolk CAMRA, said: "The Old White Bell combines my two loves, excellent real ale and plenty of live football. It is a really fantastic pub, with friendly staff and locals, and well worth a detour off the A10 Grand Prix circuit.
