MAGGIE Towers of Springhead Lane in Ely died on September 15 at her home, she was aged 57.

Born in March in Cambridgeshire, Maggie came to Ely from Cheltenham in 2003 and married Robert Towers. Two years ago she was diagnosed with mouth cancer and then developed breast cancer six months later. She campaigned with her daughter Emily, for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and held a garden party last month that raised £700 for the charity.

Maggie was a primary school teacher, specialising in English and RE. She worked at Friday Bridge and then did supply work at Ely, Littleport, Soham and Little Thetford.

Maggie was a devout Christian and supported Alpha and home groups at St Mary's Church in Ely.

She loved walking both locally and on holiday in the Cotswolds, Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.

Her funeral will take place at St Mary's Church on September 26 at 2pm, followed by a burial at the Arbory Woodland Trust, Barton, near Cambridge.

Maggie is survived by her husband Robert, son and daughter Adam and Emily Skerret of Cheltenham and Christopher Skerret of Oxford, her three step-children and three-step grandchildren.
