POTATO merchant Leslie Stevens died at home on Tower Farm, Little Downham, on August 12. He was aged 79. A keen gardener and motorcyclist, Leslie spent the last 25 years restoring the buildings and gardens of his home at the Old Bishop's Palace in Little Downham. He was well known locally as manager of WB Chambers and Son in Little Downham and Stretham where he had worked for 47 years. He went on to found Tower Farm Produce. Born in Littleport, Mr Stevens married Doreen Wall in Bethnal Green, London in January 1957. Mr Stevens' memorial service took place at St Leonard's Church, Little Downham on August 22, led by parish priest Pauline. He is survived by three children and two grandchildren, Mark Stevens and Kay Mulley who live at Tower Farm, and Catherine Stevens of The Golden Heart in Birdlip, Gloucestershire. He will be fondly remembered by grandchildren James and Rebecca Mulley.
