The awards, which are being organised by MetroRod in conjunction with the Ely Standard, have captured the imaginations of the community in East Cambridgeshire and now the judging panel will begin the unenviable task of shortlisting and then choosing the winners in each of the 10 categories.

The bulk of the entries were submitted via the website: www.elyheroawards.org.uk which was specially designed by local graphic designer Luke Smith from Infiniti Graphics.

Sadie Finch virtual assistant has been carefully collating all the nominations to pass to the judging panel.

The judges will now look at each entry before deciding on a shortlist of three for each of the categories.

All of the finalists for each category will be invited to the exclusive award ceremony at The Maltings on June 19 where the winners will be announced, and The Ely Hero will be crowned!

Naomi Sherwood from MetroRod Cambridge said: ”We are absolutely delighted to have received over 110 (and still counting) nominations for the awards.

“We knew there were a lot of amazing people in Ely and the villages and it has been wonderful to receive all their stories, so thank you for shining a light on them. We would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors and judges for making this possible, all the people who have nominated and who have supported us so far.

“Thank you also to the local businesses who have promoted the event by displaying posters and cards and to Leonie Smith who kindly delivered them for us. The response and excitement for the very first Ely Hero Awards has been overwhelming and we are very much looking forward to the next stage of the process, and of course the exciting award ceremony next month.

“If you have been nominated and shortlisted, the judging panel will be contacting you in due course to arrange the next steps of your entry. Good luck to all the nominees! Keep checking our website, tweets and Facebook pages for all the updates.”
