A VAN driver stopped by police working on Operation Outback - checking vehicles for stolen scrap metal - had no driving documents.

Leslie Hughes was stopped in Snailwell on March 5 and given a fixed penalty for failing to wear a seat belt.

It later came to light that Hughes, 41, of New Road, Guilden Morden, had no licence, insurance or MoT certificate.

The father of seven was banned from driving for a year by Ely magistrates, and fined a total of £200 with £42 costs.
