A brand new mixed Morris dancing side has been launched in Sutton and the group is on the look out for new members.

Sutton Masque is the brainchild of former solider Bob Wright, who wants to attract both men and woman, musicians and dancers to get involved.

So far, the side has 10 people signed up but Sutton resident Bob is hoping to attract a few more before the serious business of rehearsals gets under way.

Bob, a former Royal Engineer based at Waterbeach, said: “It is something I have always been interested in doing since my youth but having spent 24 years in the armed forces, I never really had the opportunity.

“The response so far has been fantastic, we have about 10 people signed up and many more who are volunteering their time to help us. We have people making bells for us, and others making sticks as well as people offering advice and support.”

Sutton Masque will dance in all black, with flashes of blue, yellow and green, colours which Bob says are closely associated with the village.

So far, the side has two musicians but Bob is keen to hear from anyone who can play a fiddle or a squeeze box and is interested in taking part in the fun.

The group is aiming to play a part and make its debut at the Sutton Feast celebrations in June.
