LITTLEPORT Leisure Centre received a £40,000 boost from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund this week.
Andy Rutterford, manager of the centre, received a cheque for £40,232 along with NE Cambs MP Steve Barclay. The funds have already been put towards the cost of a new floor for the centre’s sports hall.
A spokesman for Littleport Leisure Centre said: “To continue with the centre’s recent renaming as a community centre and to make the most of the new facilities a new set of tariffs have been introduced to enable families to join as members at a much more reasonable rate than in the past.”
Councillor Tony Parramint, chairman of East Cambridgeshire District Council, who was also at the cheque presentation, said: “With all the sporting excitement of 2012 still living strong in the memory, I am sure this new flooring will see a lot of use.
“Whether it is through mature and active sessions or games of football and basketball, it is really important for us all to remain fit and active. So I wish the leisure centre and residents all well over the coming months and years.”
