A new, seven day a week, charity shop will open next month on Ely High Street and they’re looking for ‘good-quality’ donations for the store.
East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) will be opening the shop on Thursday, October 4.
It was just three months ago that the charity opened a store in Churchgate Street, Soham and the new Ely shop will be the charity’s 34th.
Sarah Throssell, EACH shop acquisition manager, said: “As a charity serving families in Ely, across the rest of Cambridgeshire and the region, we’re delighted to be opening in this historic city.
“Shoppers can expect a boutique shop, decorated in a main palette of dark grey and white. Our focus will be ladieswear and we already have a great range of stock ready to go.”
In 2016 to 2017 the annual accounts of EACH show that £2.7 million was raised through their shops alone and their eBay sales went up by 139 per cent.
Six years ago the Duchess of Cambridge was announced as the charity’s royal patron.
EACH says it will be happy to accept donations from Monday, October 1. The shop can take “clean and good-quality goods to sell.”
Goods include clothing, bric-a-brac, modern paperbacks, toys, jewellery, DVDs or CDs, household linens, retro and vintage clothes and small electrical items.
The shop will also be accepting cakes for EACH’s stall at Ely Cathedral’s Christmas Gift and Food Fair in November.
A spokesman said: “EACH also needs donations of good-quality furniture and can collect it free of charge if you are unable to transport it yourself.
“To put into context the difference just a small donation to the shop can make to the vital work EACH does, here are some examples of what your donation could pay for:
“A top, skirt or pair of trousers worth £5 could pay for art supplies for a session of art therapy; a tea set worth £10 could fund a nursing care kit.
“A nice wedding hat or jacket worth £20 could pay for a support group for siblings and an item of good-quality furniture or prom dress worth £35 could pay for an hour of specialist care.”
In the past financial year EACH shops generated a profit of over £900,000, all of which went towards helping families make the most of their time together.
