THERE’S a new team in place at Ely Fire Station and the city’s firefighters are planning to get out and about in the coming weeks to introduce themselves.

The new team, headed up by station commander Matt Murdoch, have arrived at Ely from stations across the county and each bring a wealth of experience to the city’s watch.

Jon Wade, watch commander, said: “The main change at Ely has been the restructuring of the front line staff into a more efficient structure. We were working here with a team of six but we now have seven each with different areas of expertise.

“What will be looking to do is continue the good work that has been going on here at the station. We are going to be doing more safety and prevention work with businesses and community groups.”
