Ms Nicholls said that the development team were able to set up the café with the help of a grant from Awards for All, a charity linked to the Big Lottery Fund.

A NEW community café in Sutton officially brewed its first pot of tea this week.

The new café, which runs every Wednesday at the Brooklands Centre, was opened by parish councillor Jean Harnwell at a special ceremony held on Wednesday.

The centre is the brainchild of the village’s community development team.

All cakes, tea and other snacks are made for the café by local residents and businesses and organisers hope that if the venture continues to be a success they will be able to open it up to the public for two days a week.

Spokesperson for the community development team, Lauren Nicholls, told the Ely Standard: “The opening went very well, we had a steady flow of people coming in to have a look and hopefully when we get the word out there people will continue to come back.”

The need for a new café facility in the village came to light following a survey of residents carried out by the community development team more than a year ago.

Ms Nicholls said that the development team were able to set up the café with the help of a grant from Awards for All, a charity linked to the Big Lottery Fund.

Parish councillor Jean Harnwell, said: “It’s a very good project that the parish council was happy to support. We hope that the café will allow people in the village to meet up on a regular basis and hopefully meet new people.”

INFO: The community café is open every Wednesday from 9am-1.30pm at the Brook with charity events held on every second week.
