UNIONS have confirmed that the 48-hour strike action planned to start from Thursday on National Express East Anglia services will go ahead after last minute talks broke down.
Members of the Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) and the train drivers' union Aslef confirmed that a continuation of the strike action seen last week would reccomence from midnight on Thursday (August 6) with widespread disruption for National Express East Anglia (NXEA) services across the board.
Commuters hoping to travel from Ely into Liverpool Street are being urged to find an alternative service with the vast majority of trains not expected to run. During last week's action which ran on July 30 and 31 only 100 out of 1800 planned NXEA trains ran according to schedule.
NXEA had hoped to stave off the threat of strikes by calling in representatives from both the RMT and ASLEF for meetings on Wednesday, but the talks over pay and conditions broke down forcing unions to go ahead with the action.
