SIR Jim Paice welcomed this week's news that unemployment has fallen again in South East Cambridgeshire.
The number of unemployed benefit claimants in the MP’s South East Cambridgeshire constituency is now 1,140, representing 1.9 per cent of the economically active population aged between 16 and 64.
Figures released this week by the Office for National Statistics show the number of unemployed claimants in the area is 177 lower than May last year and 92 lower than April.
The area now has some of the lowest rates of unemployment in Britain, ranked 602 out of 650. Nationally the unemployment rate stands at 7.8 per cent.
Sir Jim said, “These figures show that, whilst there is clearly still some way to go, South East Cambridgeshire is weathering the storm better than many other places in the country.
“Whilst anyone looking for work has my sympathy these figures show that here at least there is real reason for hope. We are fortunate to live in such a resilient local economy”
