Headteachers from schools and colleges from across East Cambridgeshire have met with the Secretary of State for Education and MP Lucy Frazer in their fight for fairer funding in schools.

Chris Terry, Witchford Village College Principal, and Ely College Principal, Richard Spencer, raised their concerns over social mobility, staff recruitment and retention and the allocation of resources for children with different needs to Justine Greening and Ms Frazer.

Ms Frazer had been lobbying for the meeting for some time, having also raised the topic of fairer funding with the Secretary of State in her inaugural session in front of the Education Select Committee, of which Ms Frazer is a member, on September 14.

She said: “The meeting was extremely productive, and I am very grateful to the Secretary of State for meeting with representatives from schools in my constituency to discuss this important topic.

“Cambridgeshire is historically underfunded for education, and its funding is currently ranked 138 of 152 areas in the country. I believe that our schools could continue to thrive and improve with further funding.

“I look forward to seeing the developments in the second stage of the fairer funding consultation due imminently, and I will continue to fight for fairer funding for schools in my constituency.”
