Lucy Frazer, MP for South-East Cambridgeshire, has launched her second school debating competition for pupils in the constituency.

All seven secondary schools in South East Cambridgeshire are taking part in this year’s competition, debating the motion, ‘that this House regrets social media.’ Each school will be hosting an internal debate, judged by Lucy, with the final taking place in the House of Commons on Wednesday November 11.

Year 10 and 11 students at Bottisham Village College held their first round of the competition on September 18, with the remaining school debates due to take place over the coming weeks.

Lucy said, “The ability to speak in public is a critical skill and I have arranged the competition to try and encourage students to enjoy putting their arguments in a public forum and improve their confidence in public speaking. I am impressed by the amount of effort that pupils are putting into their preparations and I am looking forward to welcoming the winning teams to Westminster for the final.”

The schools taking part are Bottisham Village College, Impington Village College, Soham Village College, King’s Ely, Ely College, Witchford Village College and Linton Village College.
