MP Jim Paice is celebrating the work of the Warm Front scheme designed to help East Cambridgeshire's most vulnerable keep warm and stay healthy this winter.

Jim, MP for South East Cambridgeshire, discovered that the project has helped 306 households throughout his constituency with a total spend of more than £260,000.

Warm Front combats fuel poverty by installing central heating into the homes of vulnerable people.

"Affordable heating is a basic need that should be available to all and I am delighted that so many people in South East Cambridgeshire are benefiting from the Warm Front scheme."

Sixty one households have benefited from a brand new central heating system or repair to their current central heating system, 158 have benefited from energy saving insulation measures between June 2005 and June 2007, the time the scheme has been in operation.

Eleven households with children under the age of four, 88 households on Disabled Living Allowance and 219 households over the age of 60 in South East Cambridgeshire have benefited from the scheme.

Warm Front provides a grant of up to £2,700 to a range of groups including householders who are aged 60 or over.

Householders applying also have the opportunity to undergo a check to see if they are in receipt of the benefits they are entitled to.

Benefit Entitlement Checks have been operating as part of Warm Front since June 2003, with the average weekly increase per client being £6.75.
