Parking restrictions are set to be introduced on a major link road in Ely in a bid to clear the carriageway of cars.

Cambridgeshire County Council has been given the all-clear to paint double yellow lines along Lisle Lane, to prevent visitors and commuters parking in the road.

The move has been backed by the City of Ely Council and the East of England Ambulance Service and was approved by councillors on Tuesday.

Graham Hughes, the county council’s director of transport, said: “Lisle Lane, to the west of Sainsbury’s, is already covered by parking restrictions through a combination of double and single yellow lines.

“This proposal seeks to implement double yellow lines along the remainder of Lisle Lane, through to its junction with Prickwillow Road.

“The proposed double yellow lines along Lisle Lane pass two side roads, Lisle Close and Roswell View, which are small residential cul-de-sacs.

“Due to the likely displacement of parking created as a result of the installation of double yellow lines on Lisle Lane, it is also proposed to implement single yellow lines on Lisle Close.”
