EIGHTY-year-old motorist Harold Reed collided with a cyclist in Ely, and on Thursday was fined £150 for careless driving.

Reed, of High Barns, was also told to pay £35 costs and had three points endorsed on his driving licence by city magistrates.

The accident happened around 9.15am on January 27, said prosecutor Yetunde Fawehinmi. Reed pulled out into Deacons Lane, and hit the rear of a cycle ridden by Theodore Allan.

Reed got out of his car and checked on the welfare of Mr Allan, who had not fallen from his cycle.

"He said he wanted money for a new wheel. If I had the money I am not sure if I would have given him it," Reed told the court. "He said he was all right, and got on his bike and rode off.
