The 16-year-old admitted using the machine without insurance or a licence. He was also fined £50 with £35 costs, and six points were put on his driving record.

Robert Bennett

WE would like to point out that 33-year-old Robert Bennett of Ely is facing trial before city magistrates next month, and not Peter Bennett, as reported last week.

We apologise for any embarrassment caused.

Pensioner faces trial

MEPAL pensioner George Sykes is to face trial on April 19, after denying an allegation of assault.

Sykes, 72, of Bridge Road, is charged with assaulting Andrew Lampert in Mepal on September 26 last year.

Warrant issued as man fails to turn up

A WARRANT was issued for the arrest of Littleport man Simon Clarke when he failed to turn up at court for sentencing. Clarke, 32, of Wisbech Road, has admitted stealing cosmetics and batteries worth £70 from Boots in Ely on November 25 last year.

He has also admitted driving without insurance and failing to produce insurance and MoT certificates to the police.

Six-month ban

A SIX-month driving ban was imposed on 29-year-old Stuart Hewlett of Wicken this week.

Hewlett, of Church Road, who had collected 12 points on his driving record, was convicted of driving at 40 mph along The Avenue in March on July 9 last year, where there is a 30 mph speed limit in force. He was fined £60 with £35 costs.

Drugs charges

DRUGS and firearms charges facing two teenagers were adjourned for two weeks by city magistrates.

Adam Webdell, 18, of Hillrow, Haddenham, is accused of possessing 10.5 grammes of cannabis with intent to supply it to others, and possessing an imitation handgun in Witchford Road at Ely on February 14.

His 17-year-old co-defendant, who cannot be named due to a court order, is accused of possessing cannabis in Ely on February 14, with intent to supply.

Lager larceny

STEALING a filled roll and a can of strong lager from the Spar shop in Ely High Street was admitted by Soham man Paul Green this week.

Green, 30, of Mill Corner, stole the items, worth £4.15, on March 2. Ely magistrates adjourned sentencing until today (Thursday).

Broke vehicle's limit

A £60 FINE was imposed on Prickwillow man Stuart Newman when he admitted driving a light goods vehicle at 78 mph on the A14, when the Ford vehicle was limited to 60 mph.

Newman, of Ely Road, had three points endorsed on his licence by magistrates, and must pay £35 costs.

No documents

DRIVING a car without any of the necessary documents landed Jamie Norris with a 12-month driving ban this week.

Norris, 26, of Saffron Close, Littleport, admitted driving a Rover 214 without insurance, a licence or MoT certificate on November 16 last year. Ely magistrates fined him a total of £250 with £35 costs.
