A MOTORIST who ploughed into the back of a stationary car in Ely has been banned from driving for nine months and fined £400.

Jordan Strickland, 22, of Heaton Drive, Ely, admitted driving carelessly in Lynn Road on December 7. He was driving a Honda Accord when he hit the rear of a Mitsubishi, and the Mitsubishi was then pushed into the path of an oncoming Mercedes car. Strickland had also admitted driving without insurance or an MoT certificate.

Weapon trial date

THE trial of Little Downham man Robert Mace, who has denied a charge of possessing an offensive weapon, has been set for August 17.

Mace, 32, of Lawn Lane, is alleged to have been found with a 12-inch adjustable wrench with a wrist strap in Nutholt Lane at Ely on March 10.

Sentence delay

AN Ely man who admitted possessing a knife with a six-inch blade in the city could not be sentenced this week, because he was unable to attend court.

Stephan Mann, 22, of Windmill Close, was given unconditional bail by Ely magistrates on Thursday, and is due back in court today (Thursday).

Cocaine trial

THE sentencing of Soham man Brian Moore, who has admitted charges of possessing cocaine, failing to give a breath test when suspected of drink-driving, and failing to stop for the police, is due to take place today (Thursday.) Moore, 34, of Guntons Close, has also admitted driving without insurance or a licence.

Trial for assault

THE trial of Witcham man Anthony Burrows, who has denied two charges of assault, is due to be heard by Ely magistrates on September 28.

Burrows, 49, of The Old Brick Yard, is alleged to have assaulted Ann Burrows and Pc Jacqueline Fuller in Coveney on May 25.

Driving charge

LITTLEPORT pensioner Anthony Cadnum has denied driving carelessly and failing to stop after a road accident on the A10, and is due to face trial before Ely magistrates on August 17.

Cadnum, 71, of Queens Road, is alleged to have driven a G-registered Volvo 340 carelessly on December 4 last year, and failed to stop when damage was caused to a Honda Civic.

Assault denied

LITTLE Downham man Paul Meads has denied assaulting Amanda Meads and John Frances on May 25 at Ely, and on Thursday Ely magistrates booked his trial for August 24.

Meads, 38, of Ely Road, is on conditional bail.

Alleged Pc assault

ELY man Gary Doyle is charged with assaulting a police officer, and on Thursday his case was adjourned for two weeks by city magistrates. Doyle, 42, of High Barns, is alleged to have assaulted Pc Alan Radford.

Case adjourned

ELY man Peter Blumenstein, 61, has denied assaulting Carole Linford in the city on June 1. Blumenstein, of Chiefs Street, appeared before Ely magistrates on Thursday. His case was adjourned until July 27.
